My Story

Artistic Director: Nicole Roerick​

​Nicole Roerick started dancing at the age of 16, taking Hip-Hop classes at a studio in Fargo, ND. While taking a Modern dance class at Minnesota State University-Mankato, she realized her passion​ for dance and continued to take Ballet, Jazz, Tap, African, Improvisation, and Composition courses. She transferred to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to complete her BFA degree in Dance in 2008. She performed and choreographed in many performances at UW-Madison and presented work at the American College Dance Festival multiple times. While at UW, she had the opportunity to work with Li Chiao-Ping, Jin-Wen Yu, Claudia Melrose, Chris Walker, Peggy Choy, Karen McShane-Hellenbrand, Tania Isaac, Jeremy Nelson, Luis Lara Malvacias, ​Kathleen Hermesdorf, and Tim Glenn.​​​​

Seeking advanced instruction, Nicole enrolled at Florida State University in 2008, where she received her MFA in Dance in 2011 and helped produce her own MFA thesis concert with 2 of her peers. While at FSU, she worked with many artists including Monica Bill Barnes and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar. She performed and choreographed in many FSU dance productions. She performed at the Ringling International Arts Festival and ICFAD in Sarasota, FL and presented work at the American College Dance Festival. She interned for a semester with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company in New York City. ​​​​​​

​In fall 2011, she formed the Nicole Roerick Collective and has since premiered work at the White Wave DUMBO Dance Festival in Brooklyn, NY and at the WestFest Dance Festival at the Merce Cunningham Studio in New York City. She presented her own show, ​Raw, in Madison in May/June 2012.​​

In addition to dancing, Nicole completed her 200-hour Vinyasa Yoga Certification in New York City and is a practicing teacher and yogini.​​​

​​Nicole relocated to Austin, TX in June 2012 from Madison where she continues to develop her own work and collaborate with other artists. She is also dancing with ​​​​​​​Spank Dance Company and welcomes support from her community.​
